The West Virginia University Multidisciplinary Studies degree program, in conjunction with Extended Learning, will be hosting a virtual information session on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.
The Multidisciplinary Studies degree program is comprised of three related minors. The program does not limit students to courses of study in a particular area, but rather stresses the importance of breadth of knowledge and cross-disciplinary communication. Students learn to apply their minors to real-world problems through a community-based internship and to apply multidisciplinary techniques in communicating the strengths of their self-chosen course of study.
Each student chooses three minor areas and must demonstrate how these areas work together toward his/her educational and/or career goals. For example, a student may choose the areas of business administration, sport and exercise psychology, and advertising, with the goal of a career in sports and special events marketing /coordinating. MDS students participate in a capstone course during their final semester, as a means to incorporate all three disciplines into a senior project, presentation, and paper.
In addition, MDS provides students with the flexibility and convenience of completing minor credits online. Minors currently offered online include:
Evan Widders, Program Coordinator, will be on hand to answer questions from prospective students. Students will be able to learn more about the Multidisciplinary Studies degree program and to see the benefits of online learning!
The virtual information session will be conducted using a Horizon Wimba Live Classroom session. Within one week of the session, login instructions will be sent to all registered participants.
Prior to the February 20 session, participants are asked to visit the Live Classroom Setup Wizard to ensure their computer will support the required software. In order to interact during this training session, the vendor recommends using a headset with built-in microphone. However, regular speakers and a standalone microphone will be sufficient. For those without microphone capabilities, an online chat feature with Live Classroom will allow participants to participate. |
