Governance - Internal Relations - National Representation

Internal representation includes many committees across the University and over the years which are too numerous to identify. The items listed below are representative of my contributions to the internal operations and well-being of West Virginia University. On a broader scale and as am ambassador of West Virginia University, selected state and national activities are listed.

Internal

  • Participant on Enrollment Management Council to represent off-campus, online and non-traditional audiences and to learn ways and means to better incorporate enrollment management strategies for off-campus growth.

  • OIP – Study Abroad Fee Policy - Dr. Dean drafted the Study Abroad policy and Extended Learning organized the personnel and process to accomplish the task.  This was a challenging and trying ordeal, but once the appropriate personnel were gathered the solution was quickly resolved in a manner congruent with other University practices. The zero assessment on Study Abroad courses through Extended Learning solves issues of assessment of traditional fees and assesses only true trip expenses, making the experience more affordable and manageable for students.

  • A member of the Student Fees Committee that was chaired by Russ Dean.  Our  sub-committee, chaired by Cheng Khoo, consisted of 4 members who drafted procedures for implementation of new student fees. This included drafting the “no-cap” procedures for non-traditional programs which is being piloted Fall 2006 by the IMC and eMBA programs.

  • Deans’ Council – twice monthly meeting of campus deans and Provost reports.

  • Served on WVU’s 2010 Strategic Planning and 2005 Self-Study Committees.

  • Serve on Academic Computing Advisory Council and participate as needed on the Student Systems Integration Group.

  • Hosted the following Faculty Development Sessions:

    • Technology and Distance Education,  WVU Faculty Development, March, 2006
    • ELearn at WVU, WVU Faculty Development, March 2005
    • Instructional Technology at WVU: Direction, challenge and Potential. WVU Faculty Development Session, April, 2004
