Admission to West Virginia University is necessary to enroll in credit courses, including those offered through Extended Learning. Students may apply as:
Graduate Applicants
The master's and doctoral degrees offered through Extended Learning require that students first be accepted into one of WVU's graduate schools. Follow these links to Graduate Admission Information and the Online Graduate Application Form or pdf form. Also view the Graduate Studies web site for policies and the WVU graduate catalog.
Students who wish to enroll in graduate degree courses must be officially admitted to West Virginia University before registration. Once admitted, you may enroll by calling 1-800-253-2762 until one week prior to the term in which your course begins.
Students who need to take the Graduate Record Exam should visit the Educational Testing Service for deadlines and an overview of the test.
Morgantown now has a computer-based testing center that administers many computer-based tests. The testing center is located on Pineview Drive at 6 Riddle Court. The office hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Make an appointment over the phone by calling (304) 293-0699 or toll free at 800-967-1100. The cost is $99. The fee can be paid by credit card or check.
Students can order test preparation material online at www.ets.org/store.html or visit GRE online at www.gre.org.
Professional Development Students
Educators who need to take a graduate level class for their certification hours can earn professional development credit through Extended Learning. Professional Development is an easy way for students to do this, providing skill renewal and enhancement in a professional field or content area. The professional development courses are graded on a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading scale and do not apply as graduate credit toward a degree program. Students who have earned a baccalaureate degree may enroll in Professional Development courses by completing a registration form through Extended Learning and by paying an application fee.
Professional Development Status is valid for only one semester and students will become inactive at the end of the semester, necessitating reapplication for successive semesters. Professional Development courses are designated with a "900" level course number (e.g. C&I 930; TE 900; COMM 900) Students must register by completing both sides of the Extended Learning Professional Develoment Registration form.
The current list of professional development courses can be found at the teacher site. For more assistance, contact Extended Learning or call 1-800-2Learn2 (253-2762).
Undergraduate Applicants
Criteria for undergraduate admission varies according to academic program. Please view the admission information for the following:
Applications may be downloaded at: http://www.arc.wvu.edu/admissions/pdf_forms.html
Or you ay apply on-line at: http://admissions.wvu.edu/undergraduate/application/default.asp
ACCESS Students
Advanced high school students may register for WVU courses through the ACCESS program and attain college credit and experiences while in secondary school.
Guest Pass Students
Are you from another college or just stepping in to WVU for a course or two? Do you want to take an undergraduate class but don't necessarily want to complete an entire degree?
Students may enroll at WVU using a Guest Application/Registration form which is valid for one term of admission. The cost is $15 and this enables visiting students to take up to 12 hours of undergraduate courses offered by Extended Learning. Students who want to take on-campus courses must use the transient form.
A student who wants to enroll in a second term must resubmit another Guest Application/Registration form and pay the $15 fee again. A student can be admitted in multiple terms as long as the student has not exceeded the 12 credit hour maximum. However, it is recommended that a student who wants to take classes on an on-going basis or take more than 12 hours should apply for regular admission.
Once the term is over, a student’s guest status is inactivated and the student cannot enroll again without reapplying to WVU either as a guest or as a regular student.
Guest students are admitted as non-degree undergraduate students. The hours earned in this non-degree status may or may not count toward a degree program and students are encouraged to talk with their academic advisors.
Admission via the Guest Application/Registration form does not guarantee acceptance to WVU as an undergraduate or graduate student. However, guest students are encouraged to continue their studies at West Virginia University as an admitted student. The admission requirements to WVU can be found at: http://www.arc.wvu.edu/admissions/urequire_main.html.
Students must send tuition payment and the application fee of $15 with the Guest Application/ Registration form. WVU accepts checks or credit cards. The amount of tuition and fees can be found on the Extend Learning Fee Schedule http://elearn.wvu.edu/Registration/tuitionFees.html
For questions about calculating tuition, contact Extended Learning via email at elearn@mail.wvu.edu or call 1-800-2LEARN2.
