"A Rehabilitation Counselor possesses the specialized knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to collaborate in a professional relationship with people who have disabilities to achieve their personal, social, psychological and vocational goals," as defined by The International Rehabilitation Counseling Consortium.

WVU Rehabilitation Counseling graduates become qualified for a wide range of employment opportunities and traditionally work in settings such as vocational rehabilitation agencies, community rehabilitation programs, Veterans Administration programs, mental health centers, substance abuse treatment facilities, or correctional facilities.
The Master of Science program in Rehabilitation Counseling is accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education and offers course work leading to eligibility for the nationally recognized Certified Rehabilitation Counselor credential as well as licensure in states as a professional counselor.
