School Health Education

The program requires 30 hours of completed coursework. Students may transfer 9 credit hours pre-approved upon admission. Students take two courses per semester, with three one-week intensive summer sessions. This program can be completed in two calendar years on a part-time basis.

This program is delivered completely online.

 

  • The School Health Education master’s degree provides teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to instill in school-age students the information needed to make healthy decisions regarding well-being. We believe that experiential instruction, coupled with critical thinking skills, enables students to be informed health consumers. We seek to provide optimal experience for our students to be models and mentors for their own students.

  • For admission to this program, one must be in possession of a teaching certificate for their state of residence. A copy of your teaching certificate is required for admission. The program is designed for those who do not have health teaching certification or those who do and wish to obtain a graduate degree in this area.

Admission Requirements

• Graduate application to WVU, and fee
• Master of Science in School Health Education application
• Three letters of recommendation
• One-page typed essay expressing your interest in the program
• Resume/curriculum vitae
• Copy of teaching certificate

Course Content

The MS in School Health Education will provide teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary for educating school-age students. This degree program will provide teachers with the necessary information needed to help their students make healthy decisions regarding well-being. Experiential instruction, coupled with critical thinking skills, will help enable students to be informed health consumers. WVU Community Medicine’s mission in School Health Education is to provide an optimal experience for our MS students to be models and mentors for their own students.
